W&M school spirit: FAIL

This year, W&M has seen unprecedented support for their football teams thanks to a great beginning of the season. After beating UVA, they've gone on to start the year with a 4-0 record. Their real test will be playing at Villanova this upcoming Saturday, but so far are looking pretty good. Let's be real though, William and Mary's school spirit, especially for the last few years, has been kind of a joke.

This was their mascot:
Ebirt was, according to Wikipedia, "An asexual amorphous green blob that donned a tri-corner hat". They booted him as their mascot in '05.

But then the NCAA's PC department took over and said they couldn't have feathers.

Is it just me, or does their color scheme and logo look oddly similar to another popular logo:






As for their new mascot, they haven't named one yet, but part of their brainstorming and polls included asparagus. That's right, asparagus... And unfortunately for William and Mary, George Mason has already laid claim to the green and yellow rip off of the UMass and GWU mascots (among others) after transitioning from another asexual, amorphous, green blob:








So, there's some background on WM's logo/mascot troubles. The newest bright idea from Waste Management's (I mean...William and Mary's) marketing department is this little gem of a t-shirt:





















Among other things, the fact that the largest word on the shirt is DUMP, when their logo and colors so closely resemble that of Waste Management, is so absurdly ironic and blatantly bad, I don't know how to react. Not to mention the fact that they have Mary and William playing football (I guess since they don't actually have a mascot they didn't have many choices). Oh, then there's a poorly drawn Duke Dog that appears to be fist pumping to his favorite jams. And then there's the choice to put Mary as the QB and having William receiving is...well...an interesting choice. And just to show that this isn't some elaborate prank, it is on their website. Dear William and Mary, thank you.

WM's idea for the Homecoming shirt:
"Uhhh...

dump...

...ummm...

Dukes...

and boom goes the dynamite"


I was able to get in touch with some WM students about the t-shirt, they weren't taking it very well...
